PHILOSOPHY

My coaching and consulting is based upon these presuppositions:

We are all responsible for creating our own experience. Even when challenging events that we cannot control happen, we are responsible for our responses to these events. Typically, however, we have much more control than we think we have. Another way of stating this presupposition is that "We consistently create our own environment" through our beliefs, filters, capabilities and behaviors.

People work perfectly. No one is wrong or broken; it's simply a matter of finding out how they function now, so that we can effectively change that to something more useful or desirable. People don't need to be 'fixed'.

People always make the best choice available to them at the time (but often there are lots of other better choices).

Every behavior is useful in some context.

The map is not the territory. People respond to their map of reality, not to reality itself.

The meaning of your communication is the response that you get. Communication is not about what you intend or about saying the right words; it's about creating an experience in, and getting a response from, the listener. The "bottom line" is the response you elicit.

Where attention goes, energy flows.

You create your own reality. You experience your personal reality, not the "truth".

Just about anyone can learn to do anything. If one person can do something, it is possible to model it and teach it to anyone else.

People already have all the resources they need. What they need is access to these resources at appropriate times and places.

There is no such thing as failure, only feedback.

Chunking tasks leads to success. Anything can be accomplished (by anyone) if you break the task down into small enough chunks.

Behind every behavior is a positive intention. While a behavior may be harmful or seem 'bad', there is always a positive intention behind the behavior.

Symptoms--pains, anxiety, depression, viruses, etc.--are communications from your body about needed action.

Core Values
Our values are the criteria we use to make decisions. They help us set our priorities and sort out our options.

  • I seek to deliver excellence with the highest standards of integrity.
  • I believe there is no one best way, as every individual is uniquely talented and every team is uniquely challenged.
  • I honor the dignity and value of individuals working as a team.
  • I celebrate the diversity of people, ideas and cultures.
  • I accept responsibility for my decisions and my actions.
  • I seek to grow through learning and knowledge sharing, and I acknowledge this is a lifelong process.
  • I embrace change and innovation when and where it is appropriate.
  • I provide positive feedback without judgment.
  • I seek to demonstrate fairness, equity and objectivity in everything I do.

Guiding Principles
When considering any decision, I ask the following questions.

  • Is it fair and reasonable?
  • Is it honest?
  • Does it make good business sense?
  • Will it be beneficial to everyone concerned?
  • Will it compromise my personal or professional ethics?
